Description of Role

Design Intern
24 hours/week
Location: Remote USA, Eastern Time Zone

This role supports the design team and reports to the Art Director.

Hyperakt is looking for a design intern to support our design team (1 art director, 1 senior UX designer, and 1 partner/creative director) with branding and digital projects. The design intern will be expected to:

  • Support the team: take on production tasks such as masking and retouching, icon design, illustration, creating design assets from existing guidelines, sourcing photography and illustration, conduct research on printing and digital production, documenting Hyperakt’s past projects, package Adobe files, and creating Google templates

  • Collaborate creatively: collaborate directly with designers and CDs to develop brand guidelines, create mockups, build figma prototypes, design wireframes, and brainstorm creative directions

  • Participate in client projects: participate in strategy and design workshops and presentations with clients and assist with synthesizing the output of design exercises

  • Support Hyperakt’s social media: prepare images for Hyperakt’s instagram account

Required Hard Skills

  • Expert in Figma

  • Expert in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop

  • Proficient in Google Docs and Google Slides

  • Proficient in Microsoft Powerpoint

  • Bonus: competency in Adobe After Effects

Required Soft Skills

  • Demonstrates command of skills necessary for the craft of design

  • Able to translate and explain design decisions

  • Exhibits creativity; comes up with a lot of new and unique ideas

  • Maintains composure throughout a wide range of projects and clients; is cool under pressure

  • Always maintains a constructive "we'll figure this out attitude"

  • Contributes to cross-team exchange of ideas and challenges others to build on and improve their ideas

  • Pursues everything with energy, drive, and a need to finish; doesn’t give up before finishing

  • Communicates clearly both verbally and in writing

  • Is able to manage their time effectively and efficiently and deliver on time

Benefits & Compensation

  • $25/hour

  • 24 hours/week

  • Sep–Dec, with possibility of 3-month extension

  • Location: While we're mostly based in NYC, we're a fully remote team. You can be anywhere in the US as long as you’re able to work east coast hours (Monday - Friday, 9:30am-6pm EST)

  • Field Trips: We schedule regular team outings to cultural institutions and events for our NYC-based staff
