The recovering economy brings with it a shift in available jobs. Some students will enter the workforce directly out of high school, while others will pursue higher education. As the price of education continues to rise, the good job opportunities for non-college educated Americans dwindle.
As part of our long-term collaboration with GOOD Magazine, Hyperakt designed an interactive online data visualization applet that illustrates the complex relationship between educational attainment, earning potential and job availability. We used a consistent triangle motif throughout the piece to compare lifetime incomes for different education levels, and shaded portions of similar triangles to show the job openings available in various fields and by education level. Just a few minutes perusing the data makes certain trends clear - the options for Americans without a degree are being limited to ever fewer and less lucrative sectors.
